Extracurricular

In addition to design, I make an effort to educate myself whenever possible about the sciences governing the universe at large, as well as familiarizing myself with any multitude of ways it can be applied in reality. (Read: I’m a huge nerd with too much free time, an embarrassing amount of Stargate lore memorized, and not enough bookshelves.) I also do occasional nonprofit consultation and participate in public research projects—including support work for the following:

Planetary Society
IBM's World Community Grid
Stanford University
Science United

In my downtime,  I collect old literature, riff on bad movies with friends, build and restore incredibly nerdy things in my garage workshop that may or may not come down with a mild case of sentience, and in general, embrace the philosophy that even in the face of dire circumstance, comedy is always an option.
